Graphics Rights & Resources

I edit this post from time-to-time, so feel free to bookmark and check back.

Building an app on AppyTrails means that you've agreed to our Terms & Conditions.  A key component outlines your rights to own or have adequately licensed the content you publish.  This isn't a post about the dangers of using un-licensed content; stories about developers who stole content (and the consequences) abound on the Internet.  Instead, I want to help you find great resources for your app.

Originality is always great when you're making a custom app.  But sometimes, shooting your own photos or making your own graphics just isn't possible.

My Favorite Free Content Sites

I should mention first that it's pretty easy to search online for free stuff. So this list isn't comprehensive. It's just a start from some of the sites I love.

Please be aware that many content creators giving out free stuff require attribution. Check the license information on each site to stay compliant! I usually go for sites that don't require attribution to keep it simple. I've also excluded some sites that I sometimes visit that try to get you to buy a "premium" subscription or that a filled with click-bait. Most have at least some ads, so just be aware of what you're downloading!

My Favorite Subscription Content Sites

  • Envato Elements
Envato is known for its incredible media assets. For under $200/year, you gain access to royalty-free stock images, templates, videos, audio files and more.
  • Digital Juice
This site has unbelievable content, but is much is geared towards video producers. Still, you can find good graphics for app development. Their lifetime subscriptions go on sale from time, so get on the mailing list to watch for the best prices.
  • freepik
The site is not free, like the name implies, but for a modest $99/year you get access to millions of assets, including tens of thousands of icons to enhance your app.
